Lilypie First Birthday tickers

Our Pets

Sammy

She is an African Spurred Tortoise. We've had her for since 2001. We bought her our first year of marriage, and she just fit in the palm of my hand. She was only a year old. We actually went to the pet store to buy a ferret. I saw how messy and smelly the ferrets were and wasn't too crazy about the idea. Then my husband came across the tiniest little turtle and was smitten. The pet store owner warned us that he (he told us she was a he) would get very large and would live a long time. However, standing there with this cute little creature in your hand-it just didn't seem to be an issue. Now that she is two feet long and weighs 20 lbs, we get it. Its possible that one day we just won't know what to do with her, and we'll have to find her a better home. But, for right now we enjoy her. During the winter she lives inside with us, and during the summer she lives in the backyard. She grazes like a cow.  Mo ignores her, and Shelby seems to think that she can hear her bark.

Mo
PitaPata Dog tickers
He is a black lab/Dalmatian mix.  He is our baby, even though Shelby is the younger dog.  Really, I think he thinks that he is human.  He had parvo when he was only a few months old.  All the vets but one told us he wouldn't survive.  I am still grateful for that vet.  He gave us the right things to nurse him back to health and today he is as healthy as a horse, and just as stout.  He loves to go for walks and rides.

Shelby

PitaPata Dog tickers
She is an Australian Shepard mix.  She is one amazing dog.  She has a strong personality.  She loves to run, jump, and play.  She loves the water and playing with her many toys.  Shelby and Mo get along better than we ever imagined they would.  Mo treats her like a little sister.

She adopted us.  She originally belonged to our neighbors, but decided that we needed her more than they did.  She can be playful, but only when she wants to play which is usually in the middle of the night.  She is very affectionate towards us and most other adults.  Kids, however, scare her.  She runs and hides.  She loves to watch the birds outside our window and sleep.  She gets along with Mo perfectly, and so far tolerates Shelby.  She was born with one deformed back leg.  When she feels that she is being treated unfairly, she limps more than necessary (hence the name "Pitty").

Duke was a black lab.  We think that he was around 13 years old.  He was seriously loyal and just such an awesome dog!  We were so glad that he didn't suffer in any way.  He just passed away one evening.  My regret is that I wasn't home when it happened.  I know he knew that I loved him though.
